The Perfect Balance of Sweet Cream Tangy Orange
DessertCreamy, refreshing, no oven needed dessert shop vibes at home
Some days I just want a dessert that feels pretty, light, and calming, the kind you eat cold from the fridge and instantly feel better.
This orange bavarois is exactly that.
Creamy but not heavy, gently sweet, with a fresh orange aroma that makes it feel fancy even though it’s actually very beginner-friendly.
Honestly, it feels like opening a tiny dessert shop at home
Why I Love This Dessert
- No oven, no baking stress
- Smooth, creamy, and refreshing
- Not overly sweet
- Beginner-friendly (really!)
- Great for afternoon tea or after-dinner dessert
Ingredients
- 350–360g milk (I use Mengniu Soft Milk)
- Zest of 1 orange
- 3 egg yolks
- 20g sugar
- 150g thick yogurt
- 10g gelatin sheets
(I love using soft milk for desserts — smoother taste, easier on the stomach, and perfect for chilled desserts.)
Step-by-Step (Calm & Easy, Just Follow Along)
Step 1: Heat the Milk with Orange Zest
Pour the milk into a saucepan.
Add the orange peel/zest.
Heat over low heat until you see light steam rising don’t let it boil.
Turn off the heat and set aside.
Step 2: Mix Egg Yolks & Sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 20g sugar
Mix until smooth and slightly pale.
Step 3: Temper the Egg Yolks
Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture while stirring constantly.
⚠️ Important mom note:
Make sure the milk is below 60°C too hot and the eggs will scramble.
Step 4: Cook Until Slightly Thick
Pour everything back into the saucepan.
Cook over low heat, stirring gently the whole time.
Once the mixture thickens slightly and coats the spoon, turn off the heat.
Step 5: Add Gelatin
Soak gelatin sheets in cold water until soft.
Add them into the warm mixture and stir until fully melted.
Step 6: Add Yogurt
Add the thick yogurt into the mixture.
Stir until smooth and creamy.
Step 7: Strain & Pour
Strain the mixture to remove the orange peel and any lumps.
Pour into orange shells or any molds you like.
Step 8: Chill & Set
Refrigerate until fully set, about 3–4 hours.
Step 9: Decorate & Serve
Top with:
- Fresh orange pieces
- Blueberries
- Mint leaves or edible flowers
- A little orange zest
Simple but so pretty.
